History
The Decatur Chapter of Ministers’ Wives and Widows was founded and organized by Sisters Cumire Steverson, Millie Johnson, and Mollie Borders on June 13, 1979, two weeks before the International Conference and was Chartered at the International meeting.
Decatur Chapter sisters meet on the Saturday before the 3rd Sunday from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Faith Church of Believers C.O.G.I. C., Atlanta, Georgia and via Zoom.
Community service is important to us, therefore we annually donate our services at the Atlanta Community Food Bank and MedShare, where we sort and pack medical supplies for shipping. We have donated to neighborhood schools and presently are donating toys to Browns Mill Elementary School.
We are proud of our chapter member Jannetta W. McIntyre who has served as Georgia State President, inducted into the International Gallery of Honor in Richmond, Virginia, and is presently serving as Southeast Region Vice President. We are also proud of our chapter which has hosted two Georgia State Conventions, in 1999 and 2014!
Our chapter continues to be a light to ministers’ wives and widows and welcome any ministers’ wife or ministers’ widow to join us. If you would like to make this light shine a little brighter, email Jackie Giddens, President at giddens1950@hotmail.com.
Lunch at Browns Mill
The Decatur Chapter sisters assisted Ms. Cicely Giddens Adams, Counselor at Browns Mill Elementary School, in serving hot chocolate with marshmallows and whipped cream to students at lunchtime. This was a rewarding, however a fast paced activity for us senior citizens to keep up with such energetic, and highly excited young people! We loved every minute of it!
Be blessed,
Jackie Giddens, President
Decatur Chapter
